Design
a Satellite
This simulation game challenges children to design a satellite that will
send TV signals to places far across the country. "Central to the
design process is exploring the ways that high technologies are the products
of human ingenuity."
Dream
It Do It Campaign
This campaign is dedicated to helping young people identify their
passion, then giving them tools to find a great career in manufacturing. This resource is recommended by the SME-EF.
goENC
Math and science have never been more important to the future of our children
and our nation. ENC provides the resources and support for math and science
educators needed to help raise student achievement in these vital subjects.
How
Stuff Works
Briefly explains how all different kinds of things work.
How
Everyday Things Are Made
AIM has developed an introductory website for kids and adults showing
how various items are made. It covers over 40 different products and manufacturing
processes, and includes almost 4 hours of manufacturing video. It is targeted
towards non-engineers and engineers alike. Think of it as your own private
online factory tour, or a virtual factory tour, if you wish. This
resource is recommended by the SME-EF.
IMTS
Student Summits
IMTS is the premier manufacturing technology exhibition in the Americas.
The show features 60 million pounds of machinery and supports technology
from more than 30 nations. For six consecutive days, McCormick Place is
transformed into one of the world's largest factories. If it has to do
with manufacturing technology, you will find it here. This
resource is recommended by the SME-EF.
Manufacturing
Is Cool!
Check out all kinds of manufacturing engineering careers, find out more
about the STEPS camps and academies, and get inspired to be an original
thinker! This resource is recommended by
the SME-EF.
Measuring
the World Around Us
As a surveyor, you have vast opportunities. You can map the world’s
terrain. Explore new oil sources. Investigate crime scenes. Take charge
as a CEO. Appear in court as an expert witness. Run a business. Excel
with computers and other high-tech equipment.
Nuts, Bolts, and Thingamajigs Student Center
Welcome to the Student Center, your link to building a career in metal forming and fabricating. Learn about available scholarships, find salary information for different careers in metal forming, and even find manufacturing camps and schools to prepare for your career.
PowerUp
Teachers, do you dream of a learning resource that will grab your students' attention and engage them as thoroughly as the video games they play at home and on their mobile phones? Are you looking for a classroom resource that will motivate your students to apply science and math concepts to real world problems? Would you like to spark your students interest in pursuing a career in Science and Engineering?
Pre-Engineering Summer Camps
The following camp directory lists some of the summer camps for high school students in science, mathematics, and engineering throughout the United States that are and were previously offered. The directory lists camps that have been hosted by Universities and research centers in the past. Please note that all camps may not be offered every year and that new camps and programs are currently being added. Old or unsuccessful programs are always being eliminated or modified. A substantial number of programs specifically target minorities, women, and other groups traditionally underrepresented in the sciences.
Teaching
Technicians
This website links technician educators with National Science Foundation
supported, state-of-the-art, faculty development in advanced & emerging
technologies, teaching methods, science, technology, engineering, and
mathematics (STEM).
Trash
for Teaching
Trash for Teaching collects clean and safe cast-off materials from manufacturing
processes (that would otherwise become trash) and repurposes them as educational
resources. With those materials we provide a comprehensive arts education
program in local school districts, which includes teacher workshops and
classroom instruction. Our programs feature the popular Treasure Truck
visit making our materials readily available to teachers and students
in the schools, and helping to bridge the gap between the excess of waste
created in manufacturing processes and the lack of materials in public
education.
SAM
Animation
SAM is software designed to give students the power of making stop-action
animations to share their ideas and understanding. The environment provides
an alternative expressive medium for science, technology, engineering,
and mathematics education that allows students to match their learning
styles to the way the present and communicate ideas. SAM is very much
a project in development and thus feedback, discussion, and ideas are
welcome.
SMETE Digital
Library
The SMETE Digital Library is a dynamic online library and portal of services
by the SMETE Open Federation for teachers and students. Here you can access
a wealth of teaching and learning materials as well as join this expanding
community of science, math, engineering and technology explorers of all
ages.
What's
Up in Factories
A dynamic new curriculum package including an instructional videotape
and teacher's guide, developed by Thirteen/WNET to help students get a
handle on the new world of manufacturing and the opportunities that it
offers. This resource is recommended by
the SME-EF.
Zoom
Into Engineering
A joint project of ZOOM and National Engineers Week, Zoom has created
materials for engineers to use with kids in classroom, after-school programs,
libraries and even malls!
This resource is recommended by the SME-EF.
